When you think of fine Italian craftsmanship what comes to mind? Great works of art, literature and architecture for sure. Perhaps a mechanical masterpiece like a Ferrari?
And of course, Italy's legendary wines.
But what about beer? In fact, some of the most exciting and innovative craft breweries in the world call Italy home!
Ca Del Brado, located in the rolling hills surrounding Bologna, is bringing the fine traditions of Italian craftsmanship and winemaking into the world of craft beer. Their wildly inventive ales are fermented with the varied flora of local yeast and bacteria and are cellar-aged in repurposed wine barrels.
In their own words:
"Our mission is to put yeasts in the spotlight. We take advantage of our unusual fermentation methods to give the yeast an ideal environment to achieve its full contribution to our beers’ aroma, flavor, mouthfeel and finish. Similar to wine, our beers have “vintages” and “seasons”. They are bottle conditioned, and they are alive. Thus they will evolve with time as the yeast slowly and continuously evolves within the bottle"
"Yeast is the new hops!!"
